Comprehensive Eye Exams

At True North, you’ll gain a clearer picture of your pet’s ocular health.
Whether your pet has an eye concern, your veterinarian referred you, or you are just wanting an annual wellness eye exam done, we are happy to help you with your ocular needs!

During your pet’s eye exam, a slit lamp biomicroscope (a portable microscope) will be used to pinpoint the exact location, nature, and severity of your pet’s eye disease, if one is present. Using indirect ophthalmoscopy (a specialized headset and lens), Dr. Hsu will also examine the hard-to-examine light-sensing structures at the back of your pet’s eyes.

This information will be used to create a treatment plan tailored to your pet’s exam findings. Recheck exams will allow your veterinary ophthalmologist to precisely track your pet’s progress and modify treatment as needed.

In addition to the above exams, your True North team will perform tests to check your pet’s tear production, eye pressure, and corneal health. Our nursing team is skilled at acquiring accurate test results with low-stress handling.

Our screening exams help breeders identify eye disease within their dogs. These exams allow for informed decision-making and, ultimately, stronger, healthier lines.

Vision Restoring Surgery

At True North, we love being a part of the magic that is restoring a blind pet’s vision. It is our favourite part of the job and one of our greatest passions.

We are currently building space to be able to perform complex, vision-restoring surgeries. We are looking forward to offering cataract surgery for the first time in Manitoba. We are also proud that our ophthalmology facility will be one of two retinal reattachment centres in Canada and one of just a handful in North America. Stay tuned for more details!
